When it comes to choosing decorative lights to adorn homes or public venues, people often only consider the aesthetic aspects, such as the shape, tone, and color of the lights, letting personal taste determine the choice of a particular decoration. However, this is just one of the components, although it is undoubtedly of great importance.

Scenic lights certainly have a significant visual impact, but in some cases, they may need replacement after only a few days of use. This indicates that the product was not suitable for the intended context of use, that is, the situation in which they were meant to be used.

Decorative lights indeed belong to different series, some of which are professional, while others are intended for shorter-duration events and have more economical finishes. To prevent unpleasant situations, in many cases, it is better to purchase professional decorative lights.

Professional lights or cheap decorations?

Navigating through all the lights offered on the Internet can be challenging. To assist you, we want to shed light on aspects to consider before making a purchase, equally important as the aesthetic appeal, ensuring that your decorations last longer..

If the term "professional" scares you, know that the denomination is due to their quality, which makes these lights particularly safe and durable because they are made with more robust finishes. The Professional lights can, therefore, be used by experts as well as by any private individual who wishes to decorate their home (at Christmas or at any other time of the year).

The so-called "economical" string lights are not of poor quality. They have thinner PVC cables, not always extendable, used, for example, to decorate the interiors of homes and premises during the Christmas holidays. They are designed for indoor use, but they can also be used outdoors, albeit for limited periods of time.

Professional lighting decorations: how to identify them

  • They have a thicker cable thanks to a double rubber coating (which provides greater resistance to low temperatures and also to the tension of the wind during installation);
  • The LEDs are fully resin-coated for greater waterproofing;
  • They have sturdier waterproof connectors to easily and safely extend the string lights.
  • They are modular: it's easy to extend or shorten the string lights, connect extensions, or use multi-connectors.

As priority is given to sturdy construction, professional items have a much smaller variety of effects and product types compared to more economical products. The thick cables can be less discreet and less aesthetically pleasing, especially when used indoors.

There are non-professional string lights - such as festoon lights - that offer magnificent results for an event or for decorating a Christmas tree (even outdoors) or for setting up a wedding. These string lights have such a high number of closely spaced lights that it would be impossible to achieve with the professional version.

Professional decorative lights: when to use them

Maritime zones

Imagine beachside venues decorated with strings of light bulbs hanging on canopies and pergolas. Very pleasing to the eye, these decorations, if installed for extended periods, are at risk due to saltwater corrosion, which can act even at long distances, corroding metals and compromising electrical connections, which oxidize very quickly.

Also, consider that in marine areas, heat and humidity are additional factors that can harm electronic devices. In these circumstances, it is advisable to use a specific line of products with individually encapsulated LEDs for enhanced protection: they do not oxidize and withstand sea spray well.

Remember that even the best products, in order to last longer, require periodic cleaning and proper care in their use.

Mountain areas

Glimmering strings of lights wrap around the fir tree in your garden, and hedges, bushes, and plants shine in the night thanks to the LEDs you have scattered here and there for the Christmas holidays.

In the mountains, unfortunately, you have to consider the cold, snow, and frost that put a strain on the functionality of your lights.

Equipped with the most professional line: make sure the cables are made of rubber, the most resistant to low temperatures. Rubber does not harden in the cold, and the cables do not get damaged.

Street installations:

During Christmas or on special occasions, administrations and public venues like to decorate streets or the entrance of buildings. Street installations require special attention as they are located in high-traffic areas. If they are accessible to everyone, there is a risk that children or animals may come into contact with them.

It is advisable to use low-voltage products to avoid possible electric shocks.

Complex setups

Professional lights are ideal for creating setups that require large quantities of lights and the decoration of large surfaces.

Some string lights are extendable up to 100 meters with a single power cable. You can have the desired length and fewer power sources than you would use with economical product lines.

As they are short segments, you also avoid the risk of having to throw away or replace the entire string: simply unscrew the connectors and replace the defective segment with a new one.

Furthermore, the product line includes numerous accessories such as multi-connectors, T-connectors with which to create even very complex setups with great convenience, without having to make too many electrical connections.

Long exposure time

Mounting and dismounting the decorative lights after use may not be enjoyable but it is advisable if you want to make a long-term investment and reuse the same lights in the years to come.

Long exposure to weather conditions damages the lights. Temperature and atmospheric agents negatively affect their functioning. Wind exerts a tensile force of no small importance on the string lights used, for example, to decorate plants. If the tension increases and is constant, it may happen that the cable and bulb welds break.

Therefore, the exposure should be brief so that the lights last longer. We also recommend cleaning them with a cloth after use, and letting them dry if they get wet before storing them back in their box.

With professional lights, you can unleash your creative talents and create stunning setups.

You can do it all by yourself, without the help of a professional installer, and by doing so, you save time and money!
